Hamburg Nightlife: Where to go for Hip-Hop, R’n’B, Afrobeats & Bashment

When it comes to nightlife, Hamburg does not disappoint! I read an article not too long ago where Hamburg was voted one of the best cities in the WORLD for a night out. And whilst I haven’t travelled the whole world to fairly test out this statement, I can confidently say that out of all the cities I have visited, I have had my best nights out in Hamburg PERIODT!

There are 3 main areas for nightlife in Hamburg:

  • Reeperbahn/St Pauli – Hamburg’s red-light district;
  • Sternschanze ‘Schanze’ – Shoreditch of Hamburg (but more chilled);
  • City Centre – Hauptbahnhof, Jungfernstieg, & Berliner Tor

One of the main reasons I enjoy partying in Hamburg is because the clubs/bars are so DIVERSE when it comes to music genres. And from the title of this blog post, you should already know what I mean when I say DIVERSE. Yes, there are many clubs and events in Hamburg playing everything from Hip-hop to Bashment!

So if that is the music you’re after – then look no further as I’ll be sharing a few of my favourite bars, clubs and events for Hip-Hop, R’n’B, Bashment and Afrobeats.

1. Sausalitos (Bar)

Reeperbahn 19-21, 20359 Hamburg, Germany

Sausalitos is a Mexican restaurant and cocktail bar. What makes this restaurant different is that they have a live DJ from Thursdays – Sundays. The DJ will have you in different moods – you’ll find yourself singing your heart out to old school r’n’b classics to hitting a quick Milly Rock to the latest trap songs.  It’s a great place to amp you up before a night out and it’s great for those who aren’t big on clubs but want to vibe to good music at a restaurant/bar (preferably in their seats).

2. Superfly (Club)

Große Freiheit 10, 22767 Hamburg, Germany

Superfly is a very a popular club on the Reeperbahn strip for Hip-Hop and R’n’B (you will also find a lot of our melanated brothers and sisters here too if you ever get lost lol) . I have ALWAYS had a good time here – cheap entry, cheap drinks and the DJ keeps everyone on their feet. As it is quite popular, the venue can reach their capacity very quickly so I would advise you to arrive on time.

One major pet peeve I have with this place is that you’re allowed to smoke inside this club (and with many other clubs in Hamburg). This is very annoying because you end up smelling like an ash tray by the time you leave.

3. Moondoo (Club)

Reeperbahn 136, 20359 Hamburg, Germany

Mondoo is also another popular club on the Reeperbahn strip. The venue has 2 rooms: a room for R’n’B, Hip-Hop etc and a room for all other genre’s. As the venue is a little small, it can feel a little cramped and sweaty sometimes. The dress code is quite mixed in this club – some people are dressed all casual and some a little more dressed up.

Again, the same con as above – the smoking indoors is just annoying.

4. Golden Cut (Club)

Holzdamm 61, 20099 Hamburg, Germany

Moving away from the craziness of the Reeperbahn and towards Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) you’ll find Golden Cut. Golden Cut is different to the clubs on Reeperbahn, it is bigger and opts for a classier atmosphere. With this kind of atmosphere, you get pricier drinks and a strict dress code – but all in all good music and vibes.

5. Various Events:

There are LOADS of club events going on in Hamburg EVERY WEEKEND. The best place to find out about them are on Facebook or by word of mouth. Below are a few events I’ve been too that have been great:

    This is so dope Temi! I definitely have to check for Hamburg as I’m so down for exploring the nightlife in European countries. I might go this winter as i was planning to go somewhere in Germany to see what their Christmas markets are like. Appreciate the share sis 👊🏾
